I finished a new article for Smarthistory on the Missouri Compromise this week, and . . . boy was something that happened in 1820 timely. Check it out here.

I just finished my second article for Smarthistory, this time tackling the life and legacy of John Brown. This was no easy task, but I had a lot of fun putting the many representations of Brown into context.

Augustus Washington, John Brown, daguerreotype, 4 1/2 x 7 3/4 x 7/16 in. (11.4 x 19.7 x 1.1cm), Hartford, Connecticut (National Portrait Gallery)

I finished my first article for smarthistory on the Mexican-American War! Super excited about this one, which puts the war in context in both U.S. politics and Mexican politics. And, because it's smarthistory, it's got amazing images and some detailed maps made by yours truly. Plus, the maps are CC and free to use.
